Course Overview

The purpose of this (3) hour course is to give you the knowledge to become an effective advocate, whether it be advocating for the patient, staff, healthcare systems, or national platforms. You will have the opportunity to use case studies to practice your communication skills and advocacy techniques.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Define advocacy as it pertains to your organization and profession.

✔️ Delineate the components of a healthy environment that encourages advocacy, communication, and healthy nurses.

✔️ Discuss techniques that will help you become a better communicator and advocate.

✔️ Discuss “conversation killers” and how to avoid them.

✔️ Discuss how utilizing the chain of command can help you better advocate for the issue. 

✔️ Examine how cultural differences may affect communication.
